Services like 988, Kids Help Phone, and regional distress lines face record demand. Callers in the most acute need often wait the longest — or hang up before anyone answers.

In high school, EMTRIA founder Keshav Gosain reached a point where he tried to end his life. That experience showed him how much it matters for someone in crisis to be heard, understood, and connected to the right support before it is too late.
Years later, Keshav trained and volunteered as a crisis responder with Kids Help Phone, supporting people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. From both sides of the conversation, he saw the same reality: responders care deeply, but overwhelmed systems, long queues, and limited initial context can make their work even harder.
EMTRIA was created at the intersection of lived experience, frontline crisis support, mental health research, and technology. Its purpose is not to replace the person answering the call. It is to help that person recognize urgency sooner, understand the situation faster, and provide more informed human support.
“I did not start EMTRIA because mental health was an interesting market. I started it because I know what it feels like to need someone on the other end of the line, and I know the responsibility carried by the person who answers.”
Human experience shaped the mission. Human care remains at its center.
